TomasAdministratorHi Irma,
Welcome… Nice to meet you. Glad you made it here. You did good 🙂
I look forward to supporting you and encouraging you on your guitar learning adventure. Please let me know how I can help now that you’re a full member.
Could you use some guidance on the best place to start?
Let me know.
Tomas
TomasAdministratorHi JoAnna,
If you could let me know where that is I can get it fix quickly. A web address (also known as URL) is the fastest. I’ve shown how to find that in the video on the post comment you did.

TomasAdministratorHi Mike,
Welcome. Glad you made it here.
The forum is a great place to get feedback both from myself and other students. There are guitar players of many different levels here and you’ll find that sometimes a student that has been where you are recently can give you some great tips.
To answer your question… It would depend on how much guitar you played. It sounds like you might be a brand-new beginner (a.k.a. newbie).
If that’s the case I would recommend The Roadmap. It’s a step-by-step program design for newbies, or for those who want a review of the basics. The idea is to check off each of the steps as you complete them… Or as I often say achieve about 80% competency (use your own judgment). You can always access it from the HOME dashboard, but here’s a direct link: https://realguitarsuccess.com/courses/starting-new/
Once you’ve completed the roadmap I’d recommend spending some time every day on The Monthly Practice Plan. It’s a fun way to practice and you can be confident you’ll be getting work on all the essential aspects of playing guitar over time.
At the same time feel free to start any of the courses that seem like it would be helpful. As you probably noticed there are many. For organized to give you an idea of which level they are created for.
10 to 20 minutes a day should work… The key is to be consistent and persistent.
Please ask questions anytime here in the forum or in the comments sections of the lessons.
I look forward to supporting you and encouraging you on your guitar learning journey.

TomasAdministratorWelcome back Jay. I’m glad to hear your wrist is better.

TomasAdministratorHi Carlos,
Welcome! I’m happy to see you here.
Practice is a good thing.
You may want to spend at least 10 minutes a day on the Practice Plan. That way you’ll be sure to make improvement a little each day.
I’ve created the Practice Plan to cover all the essential areas of playing guitar over time.
Please feel free to ask questions or let me know how I can help.

TomasAdministratorHi Jenny,
Welcome aboard. I’m glad you made it here.
I want to second Chris’ tip… start small and be consistent.
It’s not that you’ll make super fast progress, but it will set up a chance to see some progress and may inspire more practice over time.
I would start with the Roadmap and go step by step.

TomasAdministratorHi Larry,

TomasAdministratorWelcome Danny. I’m glad to have you here.
How the weather now in Boston? I was born in Worcester MA, but my parents decided pretty quick after I was born to escape the winters and head to California.
I look forward to supporting and encouraging you with your guitar paying goals.
Feel free to ask questions so I and the others can help.
BTW… the newest and biggest improvement I’ve made to the site in the past few months is to create a Monthly Practice Plan every month. You can access it from the main dashboard. It’s something you can do a little everyday (10 minutes or so) without worrying if you get it down. It’s meant to be challenging. Give it a try and check off each exercise as you go.
I’ll do a drawing at the next RGS Live for all those who have checked off all the exercises (not perfected… but worked on it for 10 minutes).
Hope you’ll play along 🙂
Take care Danny,
Tomas
TomasAdministratorThat’s my preferred “go to” way of playing the A. Glad it works for you.
TomasAdministratorThanks for letting me know DaveJay.
That’s great!

TomasAdministratorCool… the forum is working 🙂
I’ve added buttons on the lessons to get to the workbook downloads.
Let me know if this helps… or if you have any ideas how to make it more user friendly.
Thanks, Tomas
TomasAdministratorHi David,
Great question. You’re right… key of Am. By the way you asked (circle of 5ths, etc.).
I see an opportunity for a some additional coaching here.
I can tell you’re trying to reason it out.
A big shift for me as a musician happened when I began to use my ears first, and let my intellect confirm and fill in. Easier said then done for us adults.
With that said, listen to the progression and see if you can hear the Am as a resting or home chord.
Read this when you get a chance: http://www.tomasmichaud.com/first-secret-playing-awesome-guitar-violate-peril/
BTW… it would be analysed as i – viib – iv – V (the V is altered to fit the role of a dominant chord).
Tomas
TomasAdministratorAh… the infamous F chord. You’re not the first to have difficulties with this.
Patience and persistence… and this will help: http://www.tomasmichaud.com/f-chord-guitar/

TomasAdministratorYes, the 4 finger and 3 finger G are interchangeable.
The Cadd2 can be used as a substitute for the C chord.
