TomasAdministratorWelcome back Jay. I’m glad to hear your wrist is better.

TomasAdministratorHi Carlos,
Welcome! I’m happy to see you here.
Practice is a good thing.
You may want to spend at least 10 minutes a day on the Practice Plan. That way you’ll be sure to make improvement a little each day.
I’ve created the Practice Plan to cover all the essential areas of playing guitar over time.
Please feel free to ask questions or let me know how I can help.

TomasAdministratorHi Jenny,
Welcome aboard. I’m glad you made it here.
I want to second Chris’ tip… start small and be consistent.
It’s not that you’ll make super fast progress, but it will set up a chance to see some progress and may inspire more practice over time.
I would start with the Roadmap and go step by step.

TomasAdministratorWelcome Danny. I’m glad to have you here.
How the weather now in Boston? I was born in Worcester MA, but my parents decided pretty quick after I was born to escape the winters and head to California.
I look forward to supporting and encouraging you with your guitar paying goals.
Feel free to ask questions so I and the others can help.
BTW… the newest and biggest improvement I’ve made to the site in the past few months is to create a Monthly Practice Plan every month. You can access it from the main dashboard. It’s something you can do a little everyday (10 minutes or so) without worrying if you get it down. It’s meant to be challenging. Give it a try and check off each exercise as you go.
I’ll do a drawing at the next RGS Live for all those who have checked off all the exercises (not perfected… but worked on it for 10 minutes).
Hope you’ll play along
Take care Danny,
Tomas
TomasAdministratorThat’s my preferred “go to” way of playing the A. Glad it works for you.
TomasAdministratorThanks for letting me know DaveJay.
That’s great!

TomasAdministratorCool… the forum is working
I’ve added buttons on the lessons to get to the workbook downloads.
Let me know if this helps… or if you have any ideas how to make it more user friendly.
Thanks, Tomas
TomasAdministratorHi David,
Great question. You’re right… key of Am. By the way you asked (circle of 5ths, etc.).
I see an opportunity for a some additional coaching here.
I can tell you’re trying to reason it out.
A big shift for me as a musician happened when I began to use my ears first, and let my intellect confirm and fill in. Easier said then done for us adults.
With that said, listen to the progression and see if you can hear the Am as a resting or home chord.
Read this when you get a chance: http://www.tomasmichaud.com/first-secret-playing-awesome-guitar-violate-peril/
BTW… it would be analysed as i – viib – iv – V (the V is altered to fit the role of a dominant chord).
Tomas
TomasAdministratorAh… the infamous F chord. You’re not the first to have difficulties with this.
Patience and persistence… and this will help: http://www.tomasmichaud.com/f-chord-guitar/

TomasAdministratorYes, the 4 finger and 3 finger G are interchangeable.
The Cadd2 can be used as a substitute for the C chord.
TomasAdministratorHi Gerald,
Very good I’m glad you have a sense of humor. Life is too short to get to serious.
About the action on your guitar. That really varies widely with taste. I prefer kinda in the middle. High enough so it doesn’t buzz too easily, but low enough to make it easier to finger with my left hand.
Some guitarist really like low action and are fine with some buzzing. I’ve also met many that go for really high action and are used to having to work harder.
BTW… I will always record the live training. No worries.
Thanks for playing along Gerald (literally and figuratively).
Tomas
TomasAdministratorThanks for letting me know about the title mixup. I must fixed it.
I’m glad it was the right workbook.
Tomas
TomasAdministratorHi Jack,
Not a pest.
There is a Workbook with the chord diagrams. I’ve had several people ask for worksheets for different lessons that already have workbooks… so I’m thinking I should rethink, or at least “add to” the way I put the workbook download on the Course Page.
I’ve added a button to the lesson page for the Jazzy Chords lesson that will take you to the Course Page (opens in a separate window) where you can download the workbook. The workbook is in the Course Materials section.
Let me know what you think. Does this help? Any other ideas on how to make it easier for students to get the workbook?
On the Monthly Practice Plan I put the sheets above each lesson… but they are individual sheets. That wouldn’t work with an entire workbook for a course.
Thanks,
Tomas
