This is a lovely tune to work on. I’m doing okay keeping time now, and changing chords. However my right hand sometimes loses its place a bit and I hit either just the first two strings, or the fourth one as well. I’m attempting to keep right hand steady and a bit anchored, but not successfully yet …
Is there an earlier lesson I can go back to, to work on this, or any suggestions?
Hi Christine,
Two ideas come to mind.
1) A mistake many students make is to play through an entire piece over and over. A good technique to learn is called chunking. The idea is to isolate just a small part and work on it a little each day. In this case, it’s probably the part you’re having difficulties with. Go slower than you think you need to. Beat it up a little at the time.
Then combine it with the portions a little bit before and after. Keep doing this until you can play through the whole piece. This is a valuable technique to learn now, as it’ll really come in handy later on as you progress.
wahoo playing with the band and changing chords and keeping up with time is really coming together, so exciting….. Thank You Tomas for all your hard work in putting all this guitar school together and showing us how to play…. im so Grateful
I have no problem playing the notes and can do so most of the time without looking. Normally I would find playing this kind of boring, but by playing along with the backing tracks it changes the entire song. One of my challenges is to play along with others and keep the same timing or to keep up, but this has helped a lot with that. Not a lot complexity but enough changes to make it fun. I really enjoyed it.
This was something that I wish I had when I first started. I played by myself for so long my rhythm was terrible. I vowed that my students won’t have the same problem. Keep up the good work Vianney.

2) Another underrated technique is “review.” Here’s a short article that may be helpful: https://realguitarsuccess.com/review/

I’m glad to hear that Laurlei. Many guitar students have a hard time keeping a steady rhythm.
That was fun, working with these simpler chords really helps. It feels great to be able to play a song, and to play with with the band. 🙂

I did it good. Thanks.
Keep it up, Michael.
GOOD WORKOUT TODAY.
