I’m usually not one to get stuck on tradition but in this case you’d really be swimming upstream. I’d recommend getting used to counting 1 and 2 and… The “and” is meant to indicate the second half of the beat or is what’s commonly called the “up” portion. It’s universal. There’s more coming. To divide each beat into 4 (16th notes) it’s universal to use 1 e and a, 2 e and a, etc.
Tomas, would it be terribly wrong to count 1 thru 8? My brain can’t get around counting downstrums as ‘and.’
