Despacito Play-Along
We’ll wrap up the week with a fun and practical rhythm technique: the palm mute. It’s one of those subtle skills that can breathe life into your playing, especially when used in a groove-heavy chord progression like the B minor–G–D–A we’ve been working with.
You’ll learn how to use the “karate chop” edge of your picking hand to gently mute the strings near the bridge, creating that tight, percussive sound heard in countless songs. Don’t worry—there’s also an easier version using your fretting hand if the palm mute feels tricky at first.

I practice for 30 to 40 minutes twice a day most days. Lately I’ve been at 8 to 8 and half hours a week. I write down the time so I’ll know.
I practice in my living room.
I plan to practice 5 days this week at my usual 4:00 to 5:00 pm timeframe in my practice spot in the den in front of the window overlooking the garden and ancient oak trees in the front yard. Soothing.
I am going to practice 5 days this week at 7 am for 1/2 hour in my guitar practice spot in a spare bedroom.
