TomasAdministratorHi James,
Thanks for introducing yourself—it’s a pleasure to meet you! I’m really looking forward to supporting you and encouraging you in any way I can.
Lately, I’ve noticed more students are posting their questions directly below the lesson videos, which totally works. In fact, it’s often the quickest way to get a response from me since I can see exactly which video the question is about. That said, I’d love to see more activity in the forum too—it’s a great place to get feedback from other students and feel more connected to the community. If you have any ideas on how I could help encourage that, I’m all ears.
Where are you at with the Real Guitar Success lessons right now? Are you working through one of the courses, or mostly sticking with the Guitar Sessions?
Looking forward to hearing more about your journey!
Tomas
TomasAdministratorWow! This is fantastic Jaume. Thanks for sharing. I had to play it for my wife.
TomasAdministratorHi Juel. Welcome. It’s great to have you here.
TomasAdministratorI fixed it. Thanks for letting me know Tom.

TomasAdministratorHi Jeffrey,
Thanks for sharing your video in the forum! I love seeing students take the initiative to track their progress and share their playing with the community—it’s such a great way to stay motivated and inspired.
To clarify, I don’t evaluate individual videos of students’ playing. That kind of feedback is best done with a private instructor who can work with you in real time, making small corrections and adjustments right there on the spot.
That said, I’d strongly recommend going through The Beginner’s Journey step by step if you haven’t already. It’s designed to guide you through essential skills in a clear, approachable way, and I think it would be incredibly helpful for you at this stage.
Keep up the great work, and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or need direction!
December 29, 2024 at 6:07 pm in reply to: Aminor scale or Amajor scale, what is the difference? #80321
TomasAdministratorHi Sissel. I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season.
Here’s a short answer:
A minor: A – B – C – D – E – F – GA major: A – B – C# – D – E – F# – G#
I’ll add your question to the live session coming up next Thursday as “what’s the difference between a major and the minor scale?”
TomasAdministratorHi Jeffery,
I’m wondering if you had time to do the guitar sessions quick start course yet. If not, you’ll find this extremely informative, and I think it’s kind of fun

TomasAdministratorThanks for your question, Jeffrey! Here’s the short answer: You can strum this song on either side of the soundhole or even right in the middle. The location of your strumming changes the tone slightly—brighter as you move toward the bridge and softer, darker as you get closer to the neck. It’s a subtle difference, but one that adds nuance, like a painter using different brushes for unique effects. There’s no right or wrong, just a palette of tones to explore.
I’d love to include this question in the next RGS Live session on Dec. 5th. Hearing a demonstration can make it easier to understand, and I can dive deeper into how adjusting your strumming position affects the sound. While this concept is a bit more advanced than basic guitar, it’s definitely worth experimenting with to expand your tonal palette and expressiveness.
By the way, you’ll receive notifications for the RGS live, along with the time and day each month. Don’t worry if you can’t make it live. I always record it and add time stamps so you can easily watch all of it or just specific parts later.

TomasAdministratorGo Sissel. Welcome back!
TomasAdministratorHi Tom, you can follow my instructions here: https://tomasmichaud.com/how-to-change-strings-on-a-classical-guitar/
I personally use D’Adarrio Pro-Arte EJ46TT (Hard Tension). The most popular with students are these: https://www.amazon.com/DAddario-EJ45-3D-Pro-Arte-Classical-Strings/ (Normal Tension).

TomasAdministratorHi again Michael, the email I sent you at michaelinp@mac.com came back as undeliverable.
Here’s that video I made for you:
TomasAdministratorI just replied by direct email to your concerns, Michael.
TomasAdministratorHi Michael,
I’ll address each of your discussions separately. The original Beginner’s Journey is not going away anytime soon. The link is at the bottom of the home Dashboard 2.0 and will be there.I made the change quite a while ago and gave students instructions on how to use the new dashboard, as well as plenty of time to explore and ask questions.
I understand you’re away and that you missed all of that. Along with giving you access to the original Beginners Journey, I can explain more about the change and why it’s an improvement. It was a lot of work on my part and a little over a year of a process. It was not done on a whim just for change.
I’ll go to one of your other comments to answer more questions.
