If you pay close attention to a guitar player’s strumming, you’ll notice that they aren’t playing all of the strings on all of the strums. There’s a lot of dynamics. Harder hits and softer hits. Sometimes you’ll only play one string. When you do this it’s called a bass strum pattern.
This is a foundational strumming pattern in Country and Bluegrass. Even Folk songs will use this. As a bonus, learning this will also help you practice your strumming dynamics.
