Why is the strumming position towards the back of the sound hole instead of in front of the sound hole on this song?

Thanks for your question, Jeffrey! Here’s the short answer: You can strum this song on either side of the soundhole or even right in the middle. The location of your strumming changes the tone slightly—brighter as you move toward the bridge and softer, darker as you get closer to the neck. It’s a subtle difference, but one that adds nuance, like a painter using different brushes for unique effects. There’s no right or wrong, just a palette of tones to explore.

I’d love to include this question in the next RGS Live session on Dec. 5th. Hearing a demonstration can make it easier to understand, and I can dive deeper into how adjusting your strumming position affects the sound. While this concept is a bit more advanced than basic guitar, it’s definitely worth experimenting with to expand your tonal palette and expressiveness.

By the way, you’ll receive notifications for the RGS live, along with the time and day each month. Don’t worry if you can’t make it live. I always record it and add time stamps so you can easily watch all of it or just specific parts later.
