Moment in Time – Melody & Play-Along
.
- EXPLANATION
- PLAY-ALONG VIDEO
- DESCRIPTION
The biggest takeaway of this lesson is to show you how you can use scales to create melodies. If you played a scale up and down over a chord progression, it would sound fine and in key. But it would lack melody.
Melodies take the notes of the scale and give them a voice. Notice that I’m only using some of the notes and they’re not in sequence. I’m also using notes sparingly instead of playing constantly. To paraphrase Miles Davis, the notes I’m not playing are more important than the notes I am playing. Think about that as you’re listening to the piece.
