G Major is one of the most common keys on guitar so it’s one of the first scales I teach students. The G Major scale is an open scale. Open scales are scales that utilize many open strings.
I’ll show you the G Major scale in two octaves using all 6 strings. Beyond the importance of learning scales, this can also be used as a warm up exercise.
