As a musician, your ears are your most valuable asset. Something a lot of guitar players miss out on in their first few years is intentional ear training. Over time your ears will naturally develop and you’ll be able to pick out notes and chords. And maybe learn licks or entire songs by ear.
But you can get so far ahead of the game by doing intentional ear training exercises like By Copy Playing. This is a simple exercise that teaches your ear to recognize notes by trial and error. The simple act of trying to find the note develops your ear.
