That’s a really nice song, Tomas. I’m a little over half thru the 2nd fingerpicking journey now so love seeing a pattern that’s new to me. This one seems a little bit like the boxer one only stretched out maybe.

I’ve managed pretty well not to compare myself to anyone. But then, I started in my mid 60s so that keeps my expectations lower. Just enjoying the journey.

Pablo Casals is a role model. He was still going at 96 and practicing for 4 hours a day. I’m not up to quite that much practice. Still, working at it for another 30 years I can likely get good enough to be satisfied with. It’s an incentive to eat right and exercise, too.

I have about 20 exercises from the 2 fingerstyle journeys written on slips of paper in a jar. So, I shake it up and pick one and put it into the dead jar and practice that one. I usually make it thru about 4 or 5 a day. So, it’s a few days to go thru them.

It’s nice to do the combination exercise and Lil Abner and some of the earlier ones now. I don’t try for speed so much, but I’ve been using a metronome a lot trying to get together with that.

I mentioned The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle in another comment awhile back. As interesting as that book is, he has one called The Little Book of Talent that’s fantastically useful with 52 tips for learning skills. Based on what he learned writing the other.

One is to practice slowly. He talks about Ben Hogan the golfer and how he’d practice his swing so slowly that when he contacted the ball it would just move an inch.

Still learning how to learn how to play.
