Hi Tomas,

I need a little help with understanding the TAB for this song, the TAB from previous lessons which I believe where more easier I can understand but here I am confused how to read the strumming. Your previous lesson about the strumming is clear but when I read the TAB I can’t connect all together.

Haha… Honestly, I don’t think the tab is particularly helpful in this case. If I were in your shoes, I’d probably just skip it and rely on the chord symbols as reminders while following along with the video.

That said, I do want to take a moment to explain what the symbols mean, so check this out: https://www.loom.com/share/34d5bcd0baa549618250eacd5309281c

How would you suggest I strum this if I’m not using a pick?

Hi Laurlei… it’s been while since I’ve heard from you.

It’s very doable. The only part that different is the picking (in this case finger) technique. If you haven’t already you’ll want to learn this technique. here’s a lesson: https://realguitarsuccess.com/courses/monthly-practice-plan-january-2023/lessons/3-strumming-with-thumb-and-fingers/

I’ve played a version with my fingers so you can hear what it will sound (and look) like: https://youtu.be/PaNzBVpbpaY

Finally I am getting some fun strumming differently than what I was doing for years. Dynamics, Timing, and strumming the right string.
Lovely. Good lesson. even best so far.

Hi Tomas, Em7 second finger on the 4th string 2nd fret optional?

Tomas (Administrator) April 25, 2020 at 5:17 pm

Yes, actually it is. It would be actually swapping out one note in the chord for another. The sound doesn’t change much. All said and done I often play it that way with the second finger on the 4th string, 2nd fret

Thanks Matt 🙂
