Shining Stars Solo
VIDEO
We’re shaking things up a bit from our usual Wednesday improvisation. One of the best ways to level up your soloing is by borrowing licks from other players and putting your own twist on them. So today, we’re diving into a solo for Stand By Me that’s packed with techniques you’ll want to steal for your own playing.
We’ll break down the solo step-by-step, go through the fingering for the scale we’re using, and give you a chance to experiment and make it your own. Plus, there’s an optional G Major Pentatonic scale you can use if you want to try crafting something original. No pressure—just a chance to play around and see what clicks!
Don’t stress about playing everything note-for-note. The goal here is to take what you like, add a bend or a slide, and see how it feels. Even if you just try it a few times and move on, you’re still adding to your “musical bank account” for the future.

Good times!
Terrific. Fun.
This isn’t out of my wheel house, but I’m finding I need a better grasp of reading the tempo. I’m having trouble reading the correct count of beats even with a metronome.
Well, you got me to play this even though it really isn’t my thing, Tomas.
I am grateful, it enriched me.
